IMPHAL, October 20: Decrying the state government for its failure to reconstruct the RCC bridge over the Leishang Hiden, at Pal AHanbi Kyamgei which had collapsed even before its inauguration in July, locals today called a press conference at the premise of the Kyamgei Youth Pioneer Club today.
The locals further expressed that unless the government reconstruct the bridge by November, the locals will initiate agitations.
Speaking to media persons, club president Longjam Suranjoy said soon after the under-construction bridge collapse and cracks appeared on it, a state government team led by Works Minister Ratan and including the local MLA, Thamarjit and Chief Engineer (Works) inspected the bridge and assured to institute a departmental enquiry and to reconstruct the bridge at the earliest.
He continued that even after more than three months has passed since the Works Minister had assured reconstruction of the bridge, no works have begun till now.
Elaborating on the importance of the bridge, he said that more than 25-30 thousands of locals of Kiyamgei, Keirao, Urup, Kongba Irong, Thongju, Bashikhong use the bridge.
Further condemning the silence of the government, he urged the Chief Minister to pay special attention to the issue.
