IMPHAL, Nov 5: A joint press statement of the Naga Chiefs’Association, Chandel, the Kuki Chiefs’Association, Chandel, the Naga Students’Union, Chandel and the Kuki Students’Organization, CHandel has said that the proposed 48 hours bandh in Chandel district and National Highway 39 with effect from midnight of November 4 will be continued indefinitely until and unless the concerned authority release/transfer L Saratchandra EE, DRDA from Chandel.

It has said that the DRDA Chandel shall be held responsible for all the damages and any untoward incidents during the general strike.

Meanwhile, the Chandel Naga Peoples` Organization, CNPO has said in a press release that the organization as such does not have any objection over the service related matter of one individual as the organization is least concerned as to who is where, in what position and in which department the person is.

It said Duty towards the office in the interest of the district matters; every government employee is appointed and posted as per the set up rules of the concerned government.

If the government of Manipur deems L Sharatchandra Singh need to be released from DRDA, Chandel office or to stay back that is the prerogative of the government of Manipur.

The point CNPO wants to make is as the EE, DRDA, Chandel he should serve the people honestly, the release said.

While, the CNPO does not side with the bandh enforcers or L Sharatchandra, it would like to make its points to both the parties.

It has said that both the parties concerned should sit together to solve the matter if at all it can be done within their level and that the Deputy Commissioner`s letter (a copy in CNPO`s hand) seeking clarification/final decision over the matter from the government of Manipur seems to cut the middle path in solving the matter.

It has added that should the bandh continue, the CNPO strongly urges that schools & institutes, business sections and other essential services be totally kept outside the preview of the enforced bandh as harvesting and school examinations season is at hand and the welfare and convenience of the people is the concerned of CNPO. There is no compromise or substitute for such. The CNPO stands firm on that, it added.
