ILP committee meets Dy CM

IMPHAL, November 18: Representatives joint co-ordination committee on Inner Line Permit system met Deputy Chief Minister G Gaikhangam and Law Minister Thoudam Devendro at the latter’s office chamber today at around 3:30 pm, to discuss on the issue of Inner Line Permit.   

This was said by convenor of the committee, Sapamcha Jadumani at a press conference at HERICON office, which was held today after their meeting with the Ministers.

He further said that the state government has given a positive response to the joint committee member during the meeting.

It is the third meeting of its kind.

The Ministers have given their assurances to the joint committee members that the state government will pressurize the centre government to implement ILP in the state, he said.

The Ministers have also asked the committee to wait for the Chief Minister to return, who is out of station, for further talk. Following which, the committee’s decision to start distributing ILP forms to outsiders have been deferred as of now, he informed.

The Ministers also clarified regarding the Union Home Minister Shinde’s remark on the Manipur Assembly private member resolution.

They said that the resolution copy which was sent by the state mentioned only some few lines of the resolution.

It did not mention any details on why implementation of Inner Liner Permit is needed to save the indigenous population, he said. 

The Ministers have also given their assurances that they will send another copy with detailed information after consulting with other Ministers and senior leaders of the state, he continued. 

The joint committee will launch a sit in protest on November 25 infront of Jantar Mantra, New Delhi, along with other political parties, MLAs, Meira Paibi and student bodies from 11 am to 3 pm, he added.                        

Press conference was also attended by co-convenors of committee, Arjun Thelhieba, Mutum Churamani, Keiruddin Shah, Joy Chingakham, ND Kh Ratan, advisor of the committee Dr Khomdon and legal advisor of the committee, Advocate Th Manihar.
