IMPHAL, November 28: Cachar Road Educational and Sporting Association, CRESA, Bishnupur has resolved to block Old Cachar Road i.e. NH-150/A indefinitely if the government fails to assure to repair the road by December 8, 2012.
Speaking to media persons in a press meet held at its office today, advisor of CRESA Ibohal said that the Old Cachar Road which is also known as Tongjei Maril has not been maintained since 1968 other than filling some potholes once in a while.
The road has not been repaired since about 10 years, he continued.
Lamenting the inaction of the government regarding the condition of the road, he told media persons that villagers of Bishnupur Ward No 1, 2, 3, Chini-Ingkhol village under Senapati district and Ngariyan village under Churachandpur district have been facing several hardships while travelling along the road especialy during rainy seasons.
He further opined that even though the road leads to the state Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam’ birthplace who is also in charge of the state Works department, the road has never been taken care of.
The condition of the road would have been far more better if the concern MLAs and the state Dy CM shown some interest in the condition of the road, he continued.
Continuing with the hardships faced by the commuters along the road, he said, travelling along the road has become a real danger for sick people throughout the year.
If the government do not provide assurance of repairing the road by December 8, 2012 then the road will be dug up and blocked indefinitely by all sections of the people from the next day. The concern department and the government should hold responsible for any unwanted incidents that may come up in connection with the road blockade.
