IMPHAL, November 28: Rabi seeds were distributed under RKVY scheme at Toupul Maning Leikai Community Hall and Ngaikhong Khullen community hall, Bishnupur district organised by the District Agriculture Officer.
Agriculture and Fisheries Minister Md Abdul Nasir, Deputy Director , Agri Ph Rajendra and Addl Director G Shamu Kabui were present at the occasion as chief guest and guests of honour, respectively.
The occasion was presided over by ZP Adhyaksa Toupul Th Ethoibi Devi.
Speaking on the occassion, Minister Nasir said, the state used to export certain agricuture items like seeds to other states as there was surplus quantity in the state.
However, since the past 14 years, the state had to rely on other states for supply of seeds, he continued.
The people and the government need mutual cooperation in order to sustain supply of such items in the state and not rely on other states, he said.
He urged the farmers not to misuse the seeds distributed to them by the Agriculture Department. Peas of 10 hectares will be distributed to the Adhyaksa tomorrow and urged the farmers to plant them properly.
The department will also try to distribute potatoes. The seeds provided by the department should be used in the right way and should not play politics. This year the food productivity has been affected by the drought like situation. To fill in the demands the government is taking up this step of distributing Rabi seeds to farmers, he said.
He also encouraged the farmers to build a work culture among themselves and assured the farmers that his department will extend any kind of help.
G Shamu Kabui appealed the farmers to refrain from excessive use of fertilizers thinking only of profit. To bring a change in the state, the farmers have to play a big role, he said.
The farmers were urged to discuss any matter with the DAO.
