IMPHAL, December 7: The middle aged woman, who was found dead with her throat slit at a drainage on the inter village road of Langol and Lamdeng on November 30 morning, has been identified by her family members today after seeing her belongings.
IMC disposed of the dead body on December 4, as no one had claimed the body.
The woman has been identified as Lourengbam (o) Memchoubi alias Memcha, 48, wife of L Amu of Haobam Marak Lourengbam Leikai.
Her husband has been detained at Lamphel Police Station for further interrogation.
Meanwhile, womenfolk numbering around 100 along with local club members of Haobam Marak Lourengbam Leikai today staged a sit in protest against the alleged killing of Memcha at their local club’s ground.
Speaking to media persons, general secretary of the local club said that on November 29 afternoon at around 2.30, Memcha suddenly left home after receiving a phone call from a man. She was sitting with her neighbours when the call came.
The club secretary further said Memcha, who was a small time businesswoman, would bring in goods from Moreh and selling it at Imphal for her livelihood. So she often goes to Moreh and stays there, sometimes for weeks and sometimes she also stays at her daughter’s place at Singjamei Waikhom Leikai.
At first her family members thought that she might have gone to Moreh for her business matters and did not bother to find even after she did not returned home since at that time the Imphal Moreh route was totally cut off due to blockade, the club secretary said.
But when she did not returned home after the blockade was lifted, her husband along with locals started searching for her whereabouts.
The club secretary further continued that according to her daughter her mother’s mobile phone was in a switched off mode since November 30.
Speaking to media persons at the sideline line of the protest, Memcha’s daughter while strongly condemning the alleged brutal killing of her innocent mother, urged the police to find the culprit(s) at the earliest.
