IMPHAL, December 17: As the state has failed to press for implementation of the Inner Line Permit, ILP system in the state before the Centre, the Federation of Regional Indigenous Societies, FREINDS will be imposing a bandh of all markets of the Greater Imphal areas on December 20.
This was announced by FREINDS president and convenor of Joint Committee on ILP System, Sapamcha Jadumani during a press conference at the FREINDS office today.
He said the bandh will be effective from 4am till 6pm of December 20.
He further identified that the bandh will be effective at Khwairamband Keithel, Singjamei Keithel, Lamlong Keithel, Kwakeithel, Tera Keithel, Pureiromba Konung Mamang Keithel and Lamphel Keithel.
He continued that the Joint Committee on ILP System, civil society organizations and women vendors will also stage a hunger strike from 9am to 3pm on the same day.
Asserting that it was the state government who had neglected the issue, he continued that during a meeting with student leaders, convenor and co-convenor of the Joint Committee on ILP on November 23, the Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde had acknowledge that the implementation of the ILP in Manipur is reasonable as otherwise incidents like the recent Kokhrajar incident could also happened in the state.
It is surprising that Shinde had no idea about ILP implementation movements in the state, he continued before adding that it is so because the government of Manipur has neglected the issue.
It is supposed to be their duty to preserve the indigenous community, he said.
Co-convenors of the Joint Committee Md Khairuddin Shah and Khomdram Ratan, president of Kangleipak Students’ Association Th Premananda, president of All Manipur Students’ Union Th Suresh, vice-president of Democratic Students` Alliance of Manipur M Angamba, president of Students’ Union Kangleipak Jayentakumar Khuman, and vice-president of Students’ Welfare Association of Kangleipak Sinam Punsiba also attended the press meet.
