IMPHAL, January 3: The Democratic Students’ Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) observed its 11th Foundation with the theme “Putting Higher Education on Tract” at RK Sanatombi Vidyalaya Complex, North AOC today.
Moirangthem OKendro Singh Minister Education, CAF& PD who was present on the occasion said the Central government has sanctioned Rs 300 crores of which, 50% is ear marked for the development of education for Manipur but School Management Development Committee (SMDA) filed a case at Guwahati High Court demanding that the scheme should be given to them and not be allotted to government engineers or agencies. “There will not be corruption in the enrollment of teachers during my tenure in the Education Ministry,” he maintained and added that the next TET examination will require a DIET pass certificate for the upper primary and BEd for the lower primary.
He further said that, new residential quarters will built up build in the Hill Districts and new polytechnic institutes will also open in eight districts.
Speaking at the function as a special invitee, Associate professor JNU, Angomcha Bimol Akoijam said, the education system in Manipur has to be streamlined and there should be agreement between MU and JNU for the exchange of students for few months to each university since such an exercise would only contribute to improving the intellect and experience of students.
He further said, “We need to work together instead of pointing each other`s fault. Instead of going on with an attitude of finding problems, we have to change our mind to stimulate our thought processes for better quality education.”
Laishram Landhoni,President of All Manipur College Teachers Association said that to make way for better higher education the central government needs to take initiative.
A blood donation camp was also organized today in relation with the foundation day. Around 150 donors donated blood on the occasion.
