IMPHAL, January 28: Olympic Bronze winner MC Mary Kom will be conferred the Padma Bhushan by the President of the Country along with other Padma award winners. Incidentally, MC Mary Kom who has earlier credited her interest in boxing to the exploits of Ng. Dinko Singh, a Gold medalist at the Bangkok Asian Games 1998 will also be attending the award ceremony to be held in a few months time with her inspiration. Dinko Singh hailing from Manipur has also been selected for the Padma Shri, albeit from Maharashtra.
The Padma awards have had its share of controversy this year with playback singer S. Janaki refusing to accept the Padma Bhusan conferred on her while expressing dissatisfaction over the number of people from South India figuring in the Padma awards list for 2013.
