UKHRUL, February 13: In stark contradiction to the State Government`s statement that the entire Ukhrul district is electrified, Soraphung village located in the extreme North and situated at the last border of Manipur and about 120-25 kilometers away from Ukhrul town is in fact still living without electricity and water supply since the establishment of the village.

Electric poles were erected along the road sides in the village some 15-20 years back by the Government but have since got damaged. The repaire of the water pipeline connection which is from the main water source at Toryang river some 50 Km from the village is still  to be complete.

With the village having a total of 140 households with about a population of 1000, life has become very difficult in the absence of the most important basic needs of the human being.

The villagers are taking immense trouble to carry water pots to fetch water from distant down stream ponds through-out day and night.Social gathering and  public occasions big or small have also been curtailed due to the lack of electricity and water facilities.

In fact, that there is a report that a  recently  Bible Camp and Ordination Program in the village had a tough time as many delegates had to return back without taking bath due to the acute scarcity of water.
