`Lack of awareness of schemes leads to their failure`

IMPHAL, February 15: The 5th foundation day of the Macha Leima RTI Apunba Nupi Lup was held today at the Lamyanba Shanglen.

The observation was attended by Ch. Upendra, Retd District and Session Judge; Kshetrimayum Ronibala, Macha Leima president and Human Rights Law Network, Manipur Executive Director Advocate Meihoubam Rakesh as Chief guest, President and Guest of honor respectively.

T Demona, General secretary Macha Leima in her key note address said that the organization has been championing for human rights in the state.

She continued that there is a need to accelerate efforts to promote and protect human rights in the state. There is also the need to spread awareness on the usefulness of the Right to Information act amongst the women of the state, she added.

She said the organization has been taking an active part on various issues of the state since its inception.

Meihoubam Rakesh in his speech elaborated on the issue of corruption and said the public cannot complain about their elected representatives not performing their duties as such representatives had been elected through bribery by the general public.

He continued however that elected representatives have a duty towards the general public since they were elected in the first place by the people.

He further expressed that even though there are several schemes announced by the government, the  lack of awareness amongst the general public and proper guidance from the concerned authorities on the schemes has led to the failure of these schemes.

Ch Upendra further elaborated on the habit of bringing a solution to an issue with compromises or payment of money as compensation, and said all those who have committed crimes should be punished according to the law.
