IMPHAL, February 16: A huge consignment of Pseudoephedrine drugs have been seized by a team of Imphal East Police who were on patrolling duty at Mantripukhri near the NRL pump under Heingang police station yesterday at around 11.30 am.
Speaking to the media, W Rajen, Additional SP (Operations) Imphal East said that a team of patrolling police on National Highway number 2 stopped a Tata truck bearing registration number AS41DD/ 0957 which was carrying potatoes and onions from Guwahati for checking.
He further said that during the routine check, the police team found 9 carton boxes of tablets containing ephedrine. The total number of tablets is 4.32 lakhs and the total worth of the seized tablets is being pegged at Rs.1 crore 30 lakhs in the market.
The driver and the two others who were in the Tata truck have been detained for further investigations.
The three have been identified as Md Waris Khan (23) and his younger brother Md Mazid (18) of Thoubal Hayenglabok Mayai Leikai and Md Itembi (32) son of Jiyauddin Thoubal Hayenglabok Mayai Leikai. Md Waris Khan who is also the driver of the Tata truck also revealed that the he was asked to load the huge consignment from Guwahati by one Md. Milan who is from Thoubal Hayenglabok Maning Leikai.
The three along with the consignment were paraded before the media at the office chamber of the Additional SP.
Meanwhile, the Heingang police have lodge an FIR regarding the seized consignment
