IMPHAL, February 24: The Manipur Library Association (MALA) under the aegis of the Government of India, Ministry of Culture; Raja Rammohun Roy Library Foundation, Kolkota and Directorate of Art and Culture, Government of Manipur is organising 4 day workshop on management of voluntary club libraries of Manipur at Manipur Press Club from February 24-27, 2013.
The inaugural function of the workshop was attended by K Shyam Singh, MLA 20-Langthabal A/C; K Chaoba Singh, Librarian, Government Polytechnic; and S Tampakleima Devi, Chief Librarian, State Central Library as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
During the occasion K Shyam Singh lamented that even if there is library in Manipur the people here do not show interest in the library movement. This has caused regression of the movement. The bill of the Library Act has passed however not yet implemented.
The pressure of people and library club is needed to implement the Act. The role of library is large in order to bring progress and stability of a land, he added.
K Chaoba Singh said library plays the role of oxygen in the society and it should be developed. It is unfortunate that the government neglects the importance of library. People are urged to support and cooperate with MALA so that its library movement succeed.
