State Cabinet: Pallel drug case to be handed over to CBI

IMPHAL, March 4:  The State Cabinet in its meeting today has decided to hand over the cases registered in connection with the seizure of Rs 15 crore worth of drugs from the possession of PRO/Defence (M-Sector) along with five other persons by a combined team of Criminal Investigation Department/Special Bureau (CID/SB) of Manipur Police Department and Thoubal District Police Commandos on February 23 last to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

According to reports, an emergency State Cabinet meeting presided by the Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh was held at his Cabinet Secretariat today at 9 am. As an important agenda of the meeting, the Pallel drug incidence was discussed minutely. After the discussion, it was decided to hand over cases under Section 21/29 of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) registered by Kakching Police Station to the CBI in the earliest time possible.

It may be mentioned that Kakching Police Station registered three different cases namely FIR No. 26(2)2013, FIR No. 27(2)2013 and FIR No. 28(2)2013 in connection with the Pallel drug incident.

The accused in the cases, namely PRO (Defence) Ministry of Defence Col Ajay Kumar Chowdhry, 49  S/o (L) Shashidhar Narayan Chowdhry, Assistant Manager of Indigo Airlines Ngairangbam Brojendro Singh, 40 S/o (L) Ng Gyaneshor Singh of Singjamei Khongnang Pheidekpi, Haopu Haokip (28) S/o (L) Thangam Haokip of Langol Game Village Zone II, Minthang Doungel (29) S/o Lunkhohao Doungel of New Checkon, New Lambulane, Minlal Haokip (25) S/o (L) Otkhokai Haokip of New Checkon near Brighter School, and RK Babloo (25) S/o RK Bijen of Top Khongnangkhong were earlier remanded to police custody. They will be produced before Special Court of NDPS at Lamphelpat on March 8, 2013.

On the other hand, following the interrogation statement of the six accused  Saikholen Haokip, 35 son of Ex Minister and present Congress MLA TN Haokip who was arrested with huge quantity of drug from his house at Dewlaland on the night of February 25 last by Kakching Police Station is being kept under police custody.
