IMPHAL, March 6: A two day seminar on “Protected Cultivation Technologies for Manipur” kicked off today organized by the Precision Farming Development Center, Central Agricultural University, Imphal at it campus.
Speaking at the inaugural function Prof. W Ingo Meitei said “Plasticulture” is one of the technologies representing all applications of plastic in Agriculture, Horticulture,Water management and all related areas. Plastic products in the form of films, sheets, tubings, nets, moulded products and in many other forms are deployed in plasticulture applications, he said.
“Drip irrigation system” helps in “precise and regulated application of water along with plant nutrients at low pressure and frequent intervals, with a close network of pipe through drippers/emitters directly into the root zone of the plant” that helps in water saving and enhance crop productivity, he continued.
Under Drip Irrigation System various irrigation system has been divided such Sprinkler Irrigation System; Plastic Mulching; Green-house; Plastic Tunnel.
He further said that two days seminar is conducting in the theme to improve agricultural product of the state and also to give an awareness to the cultivator of the state.
