IMPHAL, Sep 26: The mortal remains of CRPF jawan Stephen Dangmei (26), s/o (L) Thawanbipou Dangmei of Raengdailong (Sadu Khoiroi), Churachandpur district, who was killed in the Naxal attack last night at Jhargram in West Bengal, was brought to Imphal from Kolkata today in an Air-India aircraft.
Stephen Dangmei (soldier no. 055154506) joined the CRPF in 2005 as a constable and he was posted in West Bengal under the B-Coy of 184 Bn CRPF.
He was the lone soldier killed when the CRPF patrol party led by Joshua Keishing was suddenly attacked by the Naxalites at Jhargram on September 25 at around 2 am. Two other soldiers were also seriously injured in the attack and three Naxalites were reportedly killed by the CRPF in retaliation.
The deceased soldier was given full honour by the officials of 32 Bn CRPF of Loktak Project Post led by Assistant Commandant SS Haokip at the Imphal Tulihal Airport.
The body of the departed soldier was then taken to his native village by his friends and relatives for the final religious rites.
Stephen Dangmei is survived by his mother, three sisters and three brothers.
Speaking to mediapersons, a relative of the deceased soldier said that his whole family solely depends on him and his departure has created a void in the family.
