Police announce special drive to check road mishaps during Holi

IMPHAL, March 16: The Superintendent of Police, Imphal West district has notified in a statement that the Imphal West district police are organizing a special drive to strictly implement certain safety norms and pull-up any erring individuals, to check the instances of road mishaps during the ensuing Holi Festival 2013.

During the special drive, all the police personnel of the District shall give emphasis to check the following irregularities with penalties under Motor Vehicles Acts 1988:

Driving motor vehicles without driving license (Contravention Sec 3) – Imprisonment for 3 months or a fine of Rs 500 or both u/s 181 MV Act;

Driving motor vehicle by the minor (under-aged) (Contravention Sec 4) – Imprisonment for 3 months or a fine of Rs 500 or both u/s 181 MV Act;

Owner of vehicles allowing a minor or a person without driving license drive his/her vehicle – Imprisonment for 3 months or a fine of Rs 1000 or both u/s 180 MV Act;

For driving without Registration Certificate of the vehicle –A fine of Rs 2000 which may be extended upto Rs 5000 u/s 192 MV Act;

Driving vehicle without insurance Certificate – Imprisonment for 3 months or a fine of Rs 1000 or both u/s 196 MV Act;

vehicles plying without displaying Registration No – A fine of Rs 300 or both u/s 192 MC Act;

Driving by drunken person or by a person under the influence of liquor/drug – Imprisonment for 6 months or a fine of Rs 2000 or both u/s 185 MV Act;

Driving at excessive speed – A fine of Rs 400 for the first offence and a fine of Rs 1000 for the second offence u/s 183 MV Act;

Overloading of Car/M-Gypsy/Maruti Van/ Bus in violation of section 133 (B) MV Act – A fine of Rs 300 or both u/s 177 MV Act;

Driving a motor vehicle at a speed which is dangerous to the public – Imprisonment for 6 months or a fine of Rs 1000 or both u/s 184 MV Act;

Driving motor vehicles using mobile phone (u/s 184 of the motor vehicle Act, 1988) – (a) imprisonment for a term which may extend 6 month or with fine Rs 400 – (B) for a previous similar offence with imprisonment for a term which may extend to two years or with fine Rs 600, Rs 800 and Rs 1000 respectively.

“All the general public are requested kindly to co-operate and help the police in curbing road mishaps and to save precious lives and ensure peaceful celebration of Holi festival which will be celebrated in Manipur from March 27 to March 31. All law abiding citizens and guardians are requested not to send out their wards without valid driving license and other necessary documents. The special drive has not been made with the intention of disturbing the festival mood of the Holi festival but to check the alarming instances of road mishaps which can be avoided with co-operation from all concerned,” the statement added.
