IMPHAL, March 18: “All efforts will be made to finish the works of the Sewerage project at important portions of Imphal including the front portion of Raj Bhavan before the rainy seasons for which hectic efforts are being made for its completion.”
This was stated by PHED Minister Irengbam Hemochandra Singh who inspected works of the sewerage project phase I being taken up by the Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) of the state in front of Raj Bhavan today at around 7.30 pm.
He was briefing the media persons at the site.
The PHED Minister specially made the visit following calls by the Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh and other officials to finish it at the earliest possible time.
The Minister further said that the second phase remains after the first phase of sewerage project is completed. As per the project, all the waste is to be carried upto Langol through the underground system.
It will cover Paona Bazaar and Thangal Bazar including ward no. 15 of Singjamei but digging below the road of the first phase, laying of pipes and taking up the works relating to it took some time. The reason being the thick traffic volume along the said road. “However, the work of the first phase of the project will certainly be completed in 2014 before the March financial year,” the PHED Minister assured adding that it would not cause inconveniences to the public.
The Minister disclosed the media persons that the work would be taken up day and night from today onwards until all the pending works are completed. Thochchom Lokeshwor, the Superintending Engineer of PHED and the concerned officials of the department were present during the ministerial visit.
