IMPHAL, April 10: Women’s Committee of United NGOs Mission-Manipur (UNM-M) has rejected the statement made by the state DGP Y Joykumar that the case regarding the murder of Satyabhama is nearly solved following arrest of three acused and has asked how the accused can be called a culprit before trial.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club today, Sobita Mangsatabam, Co-Convener of the Women Committee of the United NGO Mission-Manipur (UNM-M) said there are many contradictions in the statements made by James and Biju to the police as informed by the DGP.
Claiming that the investigating process and the forensic lab in the state are not competent in its functioning, the Committee has called for a separate police force to handle women and child related issues.
Calling on all the 60 MLAs to show their commitment and give decision to safeguard women and children in the state, Sobita continued a strong political will and commitment is required from the Government.
Proper investigation is very important as to find out whether Ksh Biju, the main accused in the murder is a paid killer, she said.
Rubbishing the version given by Biju that he took Satyabhama`s dead body on his two-wheeler and dumped the body in a field after the murder, Sobita pointed out that a Mahindra Rodeo, a two-wheeler is a small vehicle and that fitting in the dead body of Satyabama, a well-built woman with a 5 ft 6 inch tall frame would have been impossible.
