Imphal, Sep 27: Amidst bad road conditions and existing tension on the National Highway-53, the inaugural function of the Nungkao branch Post Office was held today at the Postal Recreation Club, Imphal Head Post Office.
This was stated by Som Kamei, Director of Postal Services Manipur division who attended the function as the president of the function.
He further informed the gathering that the state has 52 sub-post offices and 642 branches and that the newly opened Nungkao branch will be able to help the nearly 1300 residents of the Nungkao villages in various aspects of their lives like communication with their loved ones who are living far away.
While speaking at the function he also pointed out the historical relevance of the Nungkao village which is the birth place of freedom fighter Rani Gaidinlu.
Furthermore, he appealed to the concerned authorities to develop the road connecting Nungkao to NH-53 while pointing out that the bad condition of the connecting road had made many a state officials skip the funeral of Rani Gaidinlu in the last part of the last century.
The function was also attended by M Lawphniaw, Post Master General of the North East Circle, Shillong and LP Golmei, Commissioner of Tribal Development, Government of Manipur who attended the inaugural function as chief guest and guest of honour.
Citing examples of militants in Assam whose parents had used the postal services to bring their wards to the mainstream, M Lawphniaw, while speaking at the function made a fervent appeal to the people of the state to join hands and come forward towards development.
She also added that the Nungkao branch which will be accounted with the Gulathol Sub-Post Office as of now will be upgraded to a Sub-post office later on.
She also appealed to the people to use the various new schemes that the Postal department has opened since these schemes are being implemented for the benefit and development of the public.
