IMPHAL, April 21: The 48 hour bandh called by the JAC formed against the killing of Tata driver Babu by alleged NSCN (IM) cadres continued in the state today with all inter district bus and other passenger vehicle services remaining off the roads and petrol pumps, cinema halls, shops being shut.
The turn out of women vegetable vendors in the Khwairamband keithel was also low as a result of the bandh.
All shops along the Mayai Lambi road remained closed and vehicles remained off the routes with protestors and bandh supporters coming out on the street and blocking the road by placing wood, stone boulders and setting tyres on fire.
Sit in protests continued in the Shamurou Bazar area against the killing of driver Babu on 17 April along the National highway number 37 on the Imphal-Jiribam road at Charoi Phangdongba under Khongnom police sub station under Senapati district.
The protests were brought out by locals and meira paibi of Samurou and surrounding areas.
Sit in protest were also staged at Mayang Imphal Baazar area.
Meanwhile, the dead body of Saorokhaibam Babu (41), son of (L) Kesho of Shamurou Awang Leikai is still lying as an unclaimed body at the RIMS Morgue.
The 48 hour general strike was called by the JAC against the killing since midnight of April 19.
