IMPHAL, Apr 22: The Governor of Manipur, Gurbachan Jagat has greeted the people of Manipur on the occasion of Khongjom Day, 2013 while noting that the day marks a reminder of the supreme sacrifices made by our forefathers for the freedom of their motherland.
In his message, he further said that the forfathers had displayed tremendous courage and immense patriotism for their motherland against the mightiest power of the world without even a thought of surrender. He went on to say, “On this day, while paying obeisance to the valiant heroes who fell at the battle of Khongjom and other fronts in the Anglo-Manipuri War of 1891, we need to renew our pledge to preserve and defend the sovereignty of our country and prepare to face any challenge to it.”
He called on the people to forget our differences and re-dedicate to the cause of the sovereignty of the country and for bringing understanding, peace and harmony amongst ourselves as this will only lead us on the path of progress while conveying his best wishes to all the people of Manipur and also wish a grand success to the Khongjom Day Celebration, 2013.
Th. Lokeshwar Singh, Speaker of the Manipur Legislative Speaker, has also greeted the people of Manipur on the occasion of Khongjom Day on April 23.
The message went on to say,” We should never forget that Paona Menjor, Chinglensana and other brave sons of Manipur sacrificed their lives for their motherland during the Khongjom War. Like them, all of us living together in the state should try to bring about a harmonious, advanced Manipur by sacrificing what we can irrespective of religion and caste.”
