IMPHAL, May 10: General secretary of the Irengband Development Association L Jatiskumar said encroachers who have come from outside the locality have started dirtying the Irum river banks by dumping wastage and eventually draining all the filth into the river. He was addressing a press conference at the Manipur Press Club today.
He said the association had already submitted a memorandum on March 3, 2013 to the Thoubal Deputy Commissioner asking to evict the said encroachers, however there has been no action from the government side, he lamented.
He further urged the government to evict the said illegal encroachers in order to preserve the river which acts as a livelihood to many thousands of people.
In case the government fail to act on the demand, the association will launch various forms of agitations, he said.
