Cabinet resolves to award Rs 10 lakhs each Everest conquerors

IMPHAL, May 20: The state cabinet meeting held today adopted a resolution that the Government of Manipur will award Rs. 10 lakhs each to the mountaineers of Manipur summiting the Mount Everest which is one of the highest peaks of the world on May 17 and 18.

The state cabinet meeting passed this resolution held at his cabinet Secretariat presided over by Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh. Briefing the media over the proceedings of the  cabinet meeting, Moirangthem Okendro, Spokesperson of the government who is also the Minister of Consumer Affairs Food and Public Distribution and Education said that the state government was happy that climbers of Manipur successfully scaled the Mount Everest during the North East India Mount Everest Expedition  and the cabinet meeting resolved to award cash prizes to them so as to encourage them.

As per the resolution adopted by the state cabinet, a cash prize worth Rs 10 lakhs each will be awarded to climbers N Vidyabati Devi and N. Chingkheinganba and Dr L. Surjit and Deputy leader Puyamcha Mohon.  Dr L. Surjit and Deputy leader Puyamcha Mohon led the Manipur expedition team. Cash prizes of Rs 10 lakhs each will be given to the two NCC cadets from Manipur who participated in the expedition whereas other climbers Athokpam Robert, Waribam James and Dr. L. Nelson who were in the Manipur team will be given Rs 1 lakh each.

Another resolution adopted by the cabinet meeting today is that on their return home, a felicitation function for the climbers scaling Mount Everest be held.

The cabinet meeting also resolved to recruit executive Officers (EO) of Imphal, Thoubal, Kakching, Nambol and Moirang through Manipur Public Service Commission (MPSC). The government of Manipur will take up further necessary steps to recruit the said EOs through MPSC as per the resolution.
