Accident victim family casts negligence slur on RIMS doctors

IMPHAL, May 25: The family of P Iboyaima (75), has alleged that the negligence of doctors present in the RIMS OPD  led to his death. The deceased had earlier been admitted to the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) today with an injury on his forehead and back  sustained during an accident.

The son of the deceased, P Toto of Sagolband Pukrambam Leikai said that the accident occurred today at around 10.30 am when his deceased father went to attend a ritual feast in a Maruti Van (bearing registration number MN01X- 3282 ) along with five others and met with an accident that involved a passenger diesel Auto (registration number MN01-4-3888) at Sagolband Tongbram Leikai area. Following the accident, his father along with others who were injured was rushed to RIMS hospital for treatment, he said.

P Toto alleged that when they reached RIMS hospital, the casualty was found closed and then they went to the OPD section to get a ticket and complete other formalities, the condition of his father worsened.

He added that when he asked the doctor present at the OPD to check his father, the doctor refused saying that he cannot be checked without the OPD ticket.

When the casualty was opened around 1 pm, his father had succumbed to his injuries.

The five others who were injured in the accident include Phijam Shantibala, 35, wife of P Shyam of Sekta Mayai Leikai and her 18 month old daughter and four  year old son Achouba who were in the Diesel Auto and Th Jadumani of Konthoujam and Kumanthem Nabachandra, 65 who were in the Maruti Van.
