IMPHAL, May 28: The closing function of the vocational training course for destitute women and girls organized by the State social welfare department at the Welfare Training Institute, Takyel today saw the distribution of sewing machines to each and every one of the trainees. Altogether there were 120 trainees from 2 batches of 6 months course each.
During the function, AK Mirabai, Minister Social Welfare said it is necessary to work together irrespective of gender to bring development in the state. She further added that vocational trainings have been regularly organized under the financial sanction of Social Welfare Department (SWD) to train poor and needy women and girls who are below poverty line (BPL).
The training is aimed in making the participants independent financially which in turn will make the society progress economically, socially and politically. The suggestion made by one of the participants today to increase the subsidy will be looked after from the next session onwards, she assured.
The Minister requested the participants not to sell away the machines but use it effectively.
Expressing her happiness and pride over a student of Tamphasana Girls’ Higher Secondary School secured the 4th position in the HSSLCE 2013 by overcoming her physical disability, she also assured that the post of Commissioner Disability will be filled within a month and the infrastructure of vocational training centre will be developed one by one.
