IMPHAL, June 14: Irom Chanu Sharmila who was today produced before the court of JMIC Imphal West at about 11 am, has been further remanded for 15 days judicial custody.

Speaking to the media at the court complex, Sharmila expressed disappointment towards the state political leaders saying that they are ‘puppets’ of the Central government.

Sharmila spoke on various issues presently dogging the state including the issue of re-introduction of ILP in the state, corruption and her demand for the repeal of AFSPA.

“The leaders of the state have failed to highlight the issue of Inner Line Permit before the Centre by citing that it is against the Indian constitution. If I were the CM I will not respond like the present CM has responded recently regarding the ILP issue in the state,” she said while adding that the CM should not take the ILP issue lightly.

The state political leaders should show us some action and only speaking about the issues confronting the state is not enough to solve the issue, she said.

She also said that corruption has become second nature Manipur and charged that to get a government job, a person has to give bribe to Ministers or high ranking officials of the concerned department. Making the point that the Armed Force Special Power Act (AFSPA) is only enforced in the North East states and Jammu & Kashmir even though other states of the country also have insurgency related problems, She questioned the state political leaders why they have remained silent regarding the AFSPA issue. They have failed to pressure the Centre because they are only puppets of the Centre, she added.
