UPPK leaders brought back from Guwahati Jail

IMPHAL, June 14: Leaders of the United People Party of Kangleipak (UPPK) who had recently signed a tripartite Memorandum of Understanding with both the state and Central governments on May 24 has been brought back to the state from the Guwahati jail of the NIA in an Indigo flight this noon by the state police.

The UPPK leaders who were brought back by the state police personal included s/s general secretary Ningthoujam Shanti alias Chinglemba (45), son of Surendrakumar of Sagolband Wahengbam Leikai, s/s finance secretary Langpoklakpam Inaocha alias Birjeet (40) of Kwakeithel Konjeng Leikai, Battalion commanding officer s/s Major Elangbam Bobo alias Khanganba (35) of Hiyanglam and s/s captain L Jiten alias Selkai (34) of Karimganj Assam.

It may be mentioned that Ningthoujam Shanti General secretary of the UPPK was brought into the state for the signing of the MoU by NIA officials in a helicopter from Guwahati Jail and later was taken back to the Jail the same day.

It may be also mentioned that the four militant leaders were arrested from the Patna railway station, Bihar on June 17 by a team of Imphal police led by Imphal West SDPO, Modhunimai and brought back to Imphal on June 22 after taking a transit remand for the four from the Railway Magistrate.
