KANGPOKPI, June 13: It might be a laughing stock for someone, but it does really matter particularly for the denizens of Kangpokpi.
An Ice Cream stall, which was never seen before in the town is helping cool down temperatures of the town people starting this year onwards.
Taking the advantage of the rapid increase of temperature in and around Kangpokpi, some business minded individual had installed an Ice Cream Stall recently at the town for business but the move has rendered various positive impact besides helping the denizens battle the scorching heat.
While earlier, the people of the district bought ice cream only from Imphal or Senapati or from some other places the stall has meant employment generation of unemployed youths who are now involved in selling the ice cream in the town using trolleys providing them with a way to earn their livelihood without much effort in a day.
The Ice Cream Stall owners have engaged unemployed youths to sell the ice cream by giving a commission of Rs 1 per ice cream.
One unemployed youth told this IFP correspondent that, before being engaged in selling ice cream, he used to earn Rs 300 maximum through hard work in a day. “But now I can earn atleast rake in Rs 700 to Rs 800 per day on an average without much effort”.
This business really helped not only the owners but also us to meet our daily needs, he added. Another seller said, “Though I am educated considering the financial status of my family I could not effort myself to get a govt job or engage in business establishment, therefore I have spent the day simple without earning any penny before engaging in this business ”.
“The more I sell, the better returns I get”, said another ice cream seller adding, “My daily commission or earning is unlimited, I could even earn more than Rs 2000 sometime”.
The ice cream consists of various kinds of mouth-watering varieties of ice creams ranging from Rs 10 to Rs 200 from different kinds of companies and have been sold at the stall. Most of the ice cream sold in the town happen to be products of Popsicle and Frosty Punch company.
Frosty Punch is incidentally a Company from Senapati Bazar, just a 20 minutes drive from Kangpokpi town.
