IMPHAL, June 20: The Khwairamband Keithel Lambi Mataida Potpham Phambi Lup has today condemned the state Chief Minister for his reported answer to a Calling Attention Motion from Opposition leader Dr I Ibohalbi saying that there is no process of providing vending spaces to the street vendors at Khwairamband keithel as they have already been provided with space at Sanakeithel at Lamphel Super Market and that efforts to convert Tombisana High Schools as a market place are on.
Speaking to media persons at the Manipur Press Club today, its president Potsangbam Shyamasakhi said the vending spaces provided by the government are not suitable for business purpose.
She elaborated that there is no proper transport facilities reaching Sanakeithel and as such customers find it troublesome to reach there and as such, most vendors fail to sell even half of their wares.
She further appealed to the 60 MLAs to take up the issue of the street vendors.
She continued that the government should either provide them with the space on the first floors of two of the Khwairamband Keithels or in and around the market place at the earliest.
She further said “we want to sit in a crowded place where we can sell out our product and run our homes”.
Potsangbam Shyamasakhi lamented that though the police are chasing them away from the street sides, people are allowed to park their vehicles by the road side.
If the vehicles owners are allowed to park their vehicles by paying tax then we are also ready to pay tax and sell our product by the road sides, she continued.
