IMPHAL, July 8: SDPO CCpur Police Station, Bavid Biaklun today briefed media persons regarding the arrest of a Manipur Rifle deserter at Tuilaphai, Henglep sub-division yesterday.The police officer said that the rifleman of the 5th Manipur Rifles, Zamkholal (26), son of Sokhai Lapho of Maphou Dam village had tried to flee alongwith his service INSAS rifle and two other SLRs and one AK 47 on June 7 from his Sejang Village post in Jiribam sub-division.
As per the statement of the rifleman, he alleged that ill-treatment from his superiors led him to run from the post along with the guns on June 7 and continued that he had proceeded towards Kalbung village where he halted for the night and the next day, he went to hide in the jungle and remained there for three days.Further according to his statement, he had hidden his INSAS rifle and two SLR rifles in a bush which is about 20 meters south east of their barracks.
After hiding his guns, he proceeded to Vairengte, Mizoram via Silchar in Assam and reached Aizawl where he halted for one night and the next day he came back to Ccpur via Guite Road.
He was arrested near the village of Tuilaphai while he was going on foot to Jiribam via Henglep to get the guns and subsequently brought back to CCPur police station.An FIR has been registered at Ccpur police station no.2(6)13 TSM PS U/S 380/406IPC &25(I-C) Arms act.
