KCP `commander` arrested in Assam

IMPHAL, July 13: Security forces on Friday night apprehended four hardcore militants including a top leader of Manipur outfit group Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP) in Assam, police said. Acting on a tip-off, a joint team of Guwahati City Police and Nagaon Police launched a search operation at Hojai in Nagaon district and nabbed a top leader of KCP militant group. The nabbed KCP militant was identified as Ibomcha Singh, alias Michael.

“Ibomcha Singh, the action commander and area commander of the militant group of Imphal West and Thoubal districts in Manipur, was one of the most wanted militants in Manipur, who is involved in several extortion and abduction cases,” Ranjan Bhuyan, Guwahati City SP said.

In a separate incident, security forces apprehended three hardcore militants of National Santhal Liberation Army (NSLA) in Assam’s Kokrajhar district on Friday night, police said.

Following on a tip-off, a joint team of police and CRPF launched an operation at Balagaon area near Gossaigaon under BTAD on Friday night and nabbed the militants.

The nabbed militants were identified as Buddhiram Soren, Sunil Hemrom and Khablu Tudu.

The police recovered one AK-47 rifle, two 7.65 pistols, three magazines and 20 rounds live ammunition from their possession.

Ibomcha Singh was produced before a court and has been remanded to police custody at Paltan Bazaar police station. Sources informed that there are several cases registered against him at several police stations in the State.
