IMPHAL, July 18: The Democratic Students’ Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) has urged the Directorate of Health Services, Government of Manipur to conduct the Manipur MBBS/BDS exam which was once scraped following an order of Medical Council of India (MCI).
In a statement, the students’ union said that a bench of three judges of Supreme Court today quashed the notification of Medical Council of India (MCI) taken on December 13, 2010 that the all India selection of MBBS/BDS should be done through the result of NEET test conducted by CBSE.
The union further stated that the concered authority of the State should take up measures to conduct the said exam at the earliest following the decision of the Supreme Court saying that the hassle decision of the State Cabinet had putted the carreer of around 6000 MBBS/BDS aspirants of the State at stake.
Taking serious note over the matter, the students’ union further demanded resignation of Health Minister and Health Director on moral ground adding that the Supreme Court had already issued an order on May 13 informing that all States of the country should held the exam before the first week of June, 2013 or else it cannot conduct the same exam further.
‘’Despite the agitation and stiff opposition from various section of the society, the State cabinet had on June 6 last decided not to conduct the MBBS/BDS exam. On the other hand, the opposition parties of the State also not brought up the issue during the last Assembly Session. The matter deserves concerted effort from both the ruling and opposition parties,’’ it rued.
Looking after the plight of the aspirants, it further appealed the concerned authority to announce a new date to conduct the exam which was supposed to be held on June 6 last.
Also, the said exam should be held without corruption and in a free and fair manner and make sure that there is no error in question and answer key and merit list, it added.
