Chandel, July 20: The indefinite Chandel District bandh called by the Chandel Naga Peoples Organisation and Naga Chiefs Association, Chandel with effect from midnight of 19th July has severely affected normal life in the district today.
During the indefinite bandh, the bandh supporters blocked the Imphal-Moreh section of National Highway near Thamlapokpi village and vehicles were made to return back.
Chandel district head quarters road and other roads leading to the Sub-Divisional Head Quarter were also blocked by the bandh supporters at different locations by piling of boulders and logs along the road.
However, there is no report of any violent incidents during the indefinite bandh till the report is filed.
The indefinite bandh was called by the two apex bodies of Chandel district demanding immediate revocation of suspension and explanation show cause notice served to the 170 teachers under Autonomous District Council, Chandel by the CEO Chandel in the name of ADC Chairman.
While briefing mediapersons at Thamlapokpi Village, Bd Betha, General secretary of Chandel Naga Peoples Organisation said that the surprise inspection made by the Deputy Inspector of School, Chandel MK Moshilpha Maring was very appreciable but unfortunately, there has some lapses during the inspection as he visited the schools under the District Council Chandel not during the school hours which is 9:30 am to 2:00 pm but before and after school hours.
He further accused that, the staff of Autonomous District Council, Chandel particularly the Deputy Inspector of Schools for taking bribe from the teachers who were absent during the surprise visit and exempted them from being handed show cause notice.
He also warned that, if the concerned authority fails to revoke the Suspension Show cause notice served to the 170 teachers under ADC Chandel at the earliest, the two apex bodies of the Chandel District will intensify their agitation till the demands are fulfilled.
