KANGPOKPI, Jul. 23: A massive Silent Protest Rally was organized by Anganwadi Workers and Helpers Kangpokpi Centre here today.
More than 700 Anganwadi Workers and Helpers under ICDS/CDPO Kangpokpi and supporters took part in the massive silent protest rally in protest against the non-payment of 14 months due honorarium by the state government and the recent assurance of AK Mirabai, Social Welfare Minister to clear the honorarium for five months only.
A large number of protestors congregated at Brig Thomas Ground Kangpokpi at around 10:30 am today and started the silent protest rally at around 11 am.
The demonstrators proceeded towards ICDS/CDPO office near Sadar Hills Autonomous District Council office.
There they were supposed to hand over a memorandum to the Child Development Project Officer who was not in the office, following which they handed over the representation to the supervisor to be handed over to the officer.
The silent protestors then continued towards the Addl Deputy Commissioner Office and handed over a memorandum to SDC, Headquarter since the Addl Deputy Commissioner could not turn up in the office due some official works at Imphal.
They also handed over the memorandum to be forwarded to AK Mirabai, Social Welfare Minister as well as the Director of Social Welfare Department.
The SDC, Headquarter who received the memorandum on behalf of the Addl Deputy Commissioner assured the massive silent protestors that the copy of their memorandum will reach to the Minister and the concerned officer by tomorrow itself.
In the memorandum submitted to Social Welfare Minister and others concerned designated officers, the Anganwadi Workers and Helpers under ICDS/CDPO Kangpokpi have lodged their protest against the non-payment of 14 months due honorarium by the State Government and the recent assurance of AK Mirabai, Social Welfare Minister to clear the honorarium for five months only.
They also demanded their due honorariums for the complete 14 months and asked the CDPO Kangpokpi to deposit the same in their respective Bank Accounts while warning that, they will not accept or draw their honorariums by any other means.
They further appealed to the state government as well as the concerned Minister and authority to take serious view of their demand and ensure its materialization at the earliest possibility, in their memorandum submitted to the Minister and others officers.
In the meantime, they also warned to launch a “No Pay No Work” agitation if the Government as well as the concerned Minister and authority ignore their “humble entreaty”.
Drawing the attention of the government, while speaking during the demonstration, Anganwadi Workers and Helpers Association Kangpokpi Centre president L Nemvah said that, they will shortly discuss with the Anganwadi Workers and Helpers Union Manipur and also other district associations for further course of agitations if the govt fails to fulfill their demand at the earliest possibility.
