IMPHAL, July 27: The High Court of Manipur on Friday rejected an anticipatory bail plea filed by John Jacob, who is under trial in regard to a case for allegedly raping 13 minor girls and other two female teachers from Ukhrul district who were illegally confined at a children home “Grace Home” run by him in Rajasthan’s capital Jaipur.

A person identified as Grace Vasha is also said to be involved in bringing those children to Grace Home.
Tangkhul Women’s Union based at Delhi had rescued the children on March 12 last and brought them back to Ukhrul. After the children were brought back, a panal of doctors conducted a gynecological examination of the 13 rescued girls at Ukhrul District Hospital and found evidences of ‘hymenal tear’, confirming that all the 13 girls were raped.
Among the 13 girls, two girls in their voluntary statement had mentioned that they were raped by John Jacob on several occasions.
It was also learnt that the boys were also beaten severely after they were tied up using binding wire and ropes.
After confirming the reports, Child Welfare Committee Ukhrul chairman Ngathingpam Zimik on April 7th, 2013, had lodged a complaint at Ukhrul police station.

It was also reported that John had allegedly raped a girl who was working as a cook at the home.
In connection with the case, Ukhrul police picked up one Nganingmi Vashi and during interrogation, he had revealed that he was involved in delivering the girls at the children home.
However, he was released on bail on April 10, 2013 by a court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Ukhrul. When Ukhrul police tried to arrest John Jacob in regard with the case, he was already lodged in the Nagaland Jail in Dimapur.
