IMPHAL, August 2: The All Tribal Students Union Manipur (ATSUM) have submitted a memorandum comprises of 11 charter of demands to state Chief Minister Okram Ibobi demanding for the improvement of education infrastructures in hill districts; to set up institution for B.ED in the hill areas; to institute health centres in hill areas etc.
Speaking to media persons during a press conference at its office at Nagaram block A Vareiyo Shatsang, general secretary said that the memorandum submitted today is a reminder of the assurance given to the representative of ATSUM on June 12, 2013 during a meeting with CM and few MLAs at his office chamber.
He continued that ATSUM has conducted a field survey in the entire hill districts encompassing educational Institutional under ZEOs and CEOs.
Upon identifying the accurate statistical figures from primary to Higher Secondary schools, the number of total teachers including arts graduate teachers, science graduate teachers, primary teachers and hindi teachers is speculated to be 3594 of, he said.
Teacher requirement in the hills will not be less than 1500 teachers at the minimum, however, no concrete measure has been taken up by the government to provide the required number of teachers in the Hill educational Institutions, he said.
He further said that the service of contract teachers in the Hill school which has been verified as genuine by the Directorate of education (s) should be absorbed or regularised.
Further, he continued that the setting up of B.ED centres in the hill districts of Manipur must come to effect at the earliest. Reservation of ST Quota for different grades of posts in JNIMS and recruitment of backlog posts from the already created posts by a special recruitment drive for ST has been delayed.
