IMPHAL, August 3: A restaurant at Hiyangthang (next to M/S Ibochou Service Station) under Wangoi police station in Imphal West was set ablaze reportedly by two to three youths using petrol today at around 5:30 pm.

The owner of Loz Boz Restaurant is from Canchipur and the manager is from Irom Meijirao.

The setting of fire was a follow up action of an altercation after three girls in school uniform were found inside the restaurant.

NNN adds: Angry volunteers of Democratic Students’ Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) dismantled Loz Boz Restaurant after six students of Class-XI from different Higher Secondary Schools in Imphal were found meeting in school uniform inside it. They then, burnt it down.

The fire destroyed the wooden restaurant. Three fire tenders from Manipur Fire Service were rushed to the spot and put out the flame.

DESAM general secretary A Thoithoi while talking to reporters said the student body had rounded up several students meeting in different restaurants and hotel in Imphal on many occasions however such incidents remains unabated in the state.

Also on Saturday, three school girls and three school boys were found meeting inside the Loz Boz restaurant during a special drive carried out by DESAM, he said.

He said, “We have destroyed the restaurant as it was not the first time that it had allowed eating and meeting among young students in uniform.”

DESAM also received complaints several times on meeting of students at the restaurant in school uniform, Thoithoi said.

He appealed to all restaurants, fast food centres and hotels in Manipur not to allow students in uniform to eat and meet and warned of the same fate met by Loz Boz restaurant.
