IMPHAL, August 8: Imphal West district police conducted cordon and search operation this afternoon at around 2:30 here at Governor Road under the City police station.
Altogether, fifty-five persons who failed to produce identity proof were detained by the police and later handed over to City police station for proper verification.
The cordon and search operation was conducted by a team of Imphal west police led by Imphal West Dy SP (Commando) S Ibomcha.
Passersby and people present in the area were verified during the operation.
Speaking to the media, S Ibomcha Dy SP Commando Imphal West said that police may conduct search operations anytime and anywhere as a part of the security measure taken up ahead of the Independent day celebration.
