IMPHAL, August 9: A one-day long awareness program on ‘System of Rice Intensification’ organised by People’s Endeavour for Social Change (PESCH) under the sponsorship of NRBA/JTT was held today at the Town Hall of Jiribam around 11.30 am.
It was attended by Th Ibomcha Singh, Up-Adhyaksha Imphal East Zilla Parishad as chief guest; Chandam Biren Singh, gen secy Manipur Loumi Lup Jiribam Area Committee as guest of honour and Dimgong Rongmei, director PESCH as president.
Giving key note address on the occasion, Dimgong Rongmei stated that the awareness program was organised with an aim to provide benefitsto farmers and by understanding the SRI program well, farmers could get many assistance.
While delivering speech on ‘’Method of SRI’’, G Solomon, SRI co-ordinator PESCH described in details on SRI, how farmers could use it and its apparatus along with six important works of SRI.
E Chinglen and S Maniyaima also spoke at length on various issues encountered by farmers in Jiribam and production of high yield crops from SRI implementation.
Stating that SRI clearly comes in place when the question of producing rice in huge quantity in small arable land arises, C Biren said it would be a wise decision on part of farmers to fully utilise seeds provided by the government at free of cost adding that a time would come when the government would stop doing so.
Th Ibomcha asserted that the awareness program would provide valuable knowledge to farmers of Jiribam and further hailed PESCH for coming up with such programs, saying that he would extend all possible help from his side in organising them like in the future.
