IMPHAL, August 11: A cabinet meeting will discuss the possibility of construction of a woman market at the land occupied by the Imphal West bazar unit at Tombisana High School located at Old Assembly road. The meeting scheduled on Monday will discuss construction of shops at the said area which are affected by the road widening works at Nagamapal.
It may be mentioned that the Old Assembly road had remained closed down for public passage post an attack by an insurgent group on March 8, 2008. Moreover, a demand from street vendors to the State government to provide them a proper market place also stands.
The cabinet will further discuss on direct purchase of land by the Commerce and Industries department for establishment of ‘Industrial estates’ to be set up at Chandel,Churachandpur,Senapati, Tamenglong, Ukhrul, Imphal East and Jiribam. It will also discuss establishing of IETE University of Technology.
A proposal to upgrade 488 posts of head constable to Assistant Sub-Inspector will also be put up for discussion. However, there is no agenda of discussing the problem of State selection of MBBS/ BDS aspirants, despite official word being given that the issue will be put up in the cabinet meeting. Sources added that since the matter is being put up to the judiciary and cases are still pending at the Supreme Court and High Court of Manipur, there may arise a question of the matter being sub-judice to the Court as the State Government has also made a representation to the Supreme Court.
