IMPHAL, August 14: Protesting crime against humanity, the Paradise United Mentor Association (PUMA) of Khabeisoi Khomidok Karong today took out a rally this late afternoon.
Prior to the rally, a public meeting was also convened at Khomidok Primary School.
Speaking at the meeting Sobita Mangsatabam, Secretary of Women Action for Development said India had completed its 60th year of independence but still the public has remained gullible and naïve to the government’s antics.
During election time people should vote for the right person who will work for the welfare of the society as the people’s representatives of the state have so far failed to turn their pre-election promises into action, once the elections are over, she said.
All government implemented schemes meant for the poor are today manipulated by those in power, she said and added that it is a gross exploitation of humanity.
Out of all the crimes against woman in the state, the ones that are reported is just the tip of the iceberg, she continued.
The boys and girls are said to have the same rights in today’s society, however, different treatment has been meted out to the two since their births, she said.
The Manipuri society is a patriarchal society which is hard to change, however, parents can always educate their wards so as to bring about a change.
Coming down heavily on the controversial AFSPA, she said that everybody knows it is a inhuman Act yet it is still not repealed and under this act various crimes have been conducted by the armed men in the state for which it must be repealed soon, Sobita added.
She further alleged that numerous cases of fake encounters, harassments and rape cases started happening after the imposition of the Act.
