Sit in protest

    IMPHAL, August 20: Kwakeithel Konjeng Leikai local club volunteers along with womenfolk staged a sit-in-protest today against alleged monetary demand and threatening of a shopkeeper by suspected militants.  

    Speaking to media persons on the sideline, a family member of the shopkeeper, K Rajen (53), son of (L) Budhi of Kwakeithel Konjeng Leikai, said that they received a demand note of Rs 3 lakh on August 7 signed by one KCP finance secretary Purel Meitei and President Ngamba.

    She further said that this morning, they found live bullets wrapped inside an envelope placed in front of their shop. A piece of paper was also found inside the envelope asking them to come to Sekmai River on or before September 19, she maintained.

    She appealed not to threaten them since they are only taking up small time business by running a grocery shop.
