IMPHAL, August 27: A delayed report has said that a man has been arrested at Narayanpur, Borobekra in Jiribam sub division for attacking his wife, mother-in-law and brother-in-law with a knife over a spat some days back.
The incident happened on August 23 around 10 pm at Narayanpur following which the man has been remanded under judicial custody.
According to reports received from the Officer-in-Charge, Borobekra Police Station, the arrested person has been identified as Sadon Sharma (38), of Narayanpur and his wife as Subhani Chakraborty (32), of Harinagar.
The couple have three sons and two daughters.
A source said that the wife had recently come back to her husband after staying at her parental house following frequent spats with her husband who is said to be an alcoholic and violent.
After their recent reconciliation, a spat broke out between the two over some petty issue, following which, Sadon Sharma took out a knife and attacked his wife on her head. When Subhani’s mother Hiranmi and brother Bapa intervened and tried to stop him, he turned against them and attacked both of them.
After the attack, the three injured were rushed to Gungoor Hospital where they were given treatment. However, as the condition of Hiranmi deteriorated, she was shifted to Guwahati for further treatment.
The accussed, Sadon Sharma was arrested on August 24 and the knife used in the attack has also been seized by the police.
On the same day, he was produced before the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMIC)/Jiribam and after the court remanded to judicial custody, he was brought to Imphal on August 25 and has been lodged in Central Jail, Sajiwa, the reports stated.
