Kukis to observe Black Day at Kangpokpi

KANGPOKPI, September 8: The 2013 state level “Sahnit Ni” or the Kuki Black Day is all set to be observed at Brigadier Thomas Ground, Kangpokpi on September 13 under the theme “Justice and Peace”.

The day has been observed to pay tribute to those who were killed during the Kuki-Naga ethnic clashed in the 90s” said Ngamlen Haokip, Information and publicity secy, Kuki Inpi Sadar Hills and spokesperson of the observation committee, adding that the Kukis will observe the day and will continue to be observed until justice is delivered and peace is brought.

He also said that this year, the observation committee shall invite the major tribal organization in the state to observe the poignant occasion.

The organizing committee has urged all government and private run educational institutions to grant a holiday to Nursery to class VI students and bring their respective students from Class VII and above to attend the observation, called Ngamlen Haokip.

The observation committee spokesperson further urged all the village chiefs and pastors of various churches including individuals within Sadar Hills to take part in the solemn occasion.

He also solicited all the families’ members of the deceased to unite with the congregate on the occasion for the success of the program.

While highlighting on the programs, the spokesperson of the observation committee announced that there shall be a “Mass Prayer” for Justice and long lasting peace amongst the tribal people and not to recur such an incident in the future.

The evening program will include lighting of candles at the site of the monument including a short program at the venue at 5 pm with a condolence service to the departed souls, informed Ngamlen Haokip.
