IMPHAL, September 24: A Road Opening Patrol team of the 18th Sikh Regiment today recovered a powerful Improvise Explosive Device this morning at Konthoujam Sabal leikai under Patsoi police station from the southern roadside of Highway Number 37, Imphal-Jiribam road.
The bomb was later detonated by a team of bomb expert around noon. According to a police source, the IED weighed around two and a half Kg. Vehicular movement along the road was blocked while the IED was being disposed by the bomb expert team around 12:40 pm.
On the other hand, a team of Imphal East police conducted a sanitization operation to look for explosives inside the Sanjenthong Officers’ Colony and Mahabali jungle along the Imphal River bank area using sniffer dogs and metal detectors of the 40th Assam Rifles. The operation was conducted this afternoon around 1:30. According to the police, the operation was taken up ahead of the Rising day celebration of militant outfit RPF which falls tomorrow.
Meanwhile, police commandos of Imphal West district nabbed three cadres of RPF/PLA and one cadre of PREEPAK PRO on September 23 from different locations – Urpok Laikhurembi Auto parking, Loklaobung Western Side of Bridge and Paona bazaar Usha Cinema hall respectively, said a press release of the Imphal West district SP.
The apprehended three cadres of RPF/PLA are identified as one Kharibam Robi Singh (41), son of Kh Chaoba Singh of Kadangbam Part I; one Yumlembam Joykumar alias Chaoba alias Thoiba Singh, (32), son of (L) Y Birmangaol Singh of Chandrapur; Jiribam (s/s corporal having army No 2247); Ngangbam Rishikesh Singh (22), son of (L) Ng Gouramangol Singh of Kadangband Part I.
The PREPAK PRO cadre is identified as Telem Boy alias Priyobarta Singh (40), son of (Late) T Puina Singh of Keishampat Aheibam Leikai.
One 9 mm pistol was recovered and seized from the possession of Ngangbam Rishikesh Singh.
In another press release issued by Dr Ak Jhalajit Singh, Superintendent of Police of Thoubal district, the commandos of the district conducted frisking and checking at Lilong Ushoipokpi area and arrested one gang member identified as Md Ithemcha (28), son of (Late) Md Nurulhaque of Ushoipokpi on September 23 at about 8:00 am.
