IMPHAL, October 26: A large quantity of expired food products were found selling at different shops located in and around Pallel Bazar in Thoubal District, during a drive conducted by the Social Development Organisation, Pallel.
The items were confiscated by the team.
While displaying the seized items at the organisation’s office, Sachin T Magang general secretary of SDO Pallel said that after reports of sale of expired food products in the state capital started emerging in some local dailies, a drive against such expired food items was conducted yesterday evening at Pallel Bazar.
He said during the drive a large quantity of expired food products were seized by the organisation from several shops.
He further appealed the concern authority particularly the Food Safety Officers to conduct a regular drive against selling such expired food items and to take necessary actions against anyone found selling such items.
He further appealed the general public to be vigilant and check for expiry dates before purchasing anything without fail.
The confiscated expired food products which were displayed before media person was estimated around to be of around Rs. 50,000 and included cold drinks-sprite and coca cola, biscuits, sweet toast, pickles, rasgula, sweets, packed milk powders, etc.
