IMPHAL, November 18: Just five days after the re-inauguration, the ceiling of a room at RIMS special ward collapsed injuring the patient occupying it.
RIMS director, Sekharjit blamed the concerned contractor saying that the incident showed the complete lack of quality control in carrying out the work.
The incident occurred around 5 am today when a patient identified as Ningthoujam Ophela Devi, 47, wife of N Jasobanta of Sagolband Thingom Leirak was inside the room with a female attendant at room number 7.
Then, part of the freshly plastered ceiling caved in injuring Ophela on her left eyebrow.
She was to be operated today for an ailment but the surgery was deferred following the incident.
Director Sekharjit and other officials came to the spot and inspected the damage; he later blamed it to the contractor and lack of quality control.
He voiced concern for the injured, and assured action against the concerned contractor. However, media were not allowed to enter post the incident and the room was closed from the inside by a RIMS staff.
Meanwhile, PANDAM has expressed shock at the news of the ceiling caving in.
Just a few days after PANDM pointed the misappropriation of funds and mismanagement on the part of RIMS management, the collapse of ceiling of the newly renovated building of special ward took place.
The incident indicates the faults of RIMS, said a press release from IPR secretary PANDM and invites a stronger stir by the people of the State.
On Nov 13 last, Dr Sekharjit announced that the newly renovated building is converted as special ward of the RIMS, it said in the release and further demanded a clarification from the director in connection with the collapse of the ceiling of the room in which the victim patient luckily escaped with minor injury, it said.
