IMPHAL, March 2: Local womenfolk of Kwakeithel Thiyam Awang Leikai today staged a sit in protest against the bomb attack at the residence of an executive engineer of the Manipur Development Society last night.
The sit in protest was staged at the residential gate of executive engineer K Dhaneshor 50 son of (L) Gulap Singh of Kwakeithel Awang Thiyam Leikai.
During the attack, a Maruti Alto and the engineer’s residential building were partly damaged.
Speaking to media persons, Dhaneshor said that he had not received any threat or monetary demands from any outfit prior to yesterday’s attack.
He expressed that the attack could be related to his office.
A woman protestor said, “We strongly condemn the attack and further appeal to all against carrying out similar attacks at residential areas.”
She further appealed to all concerned against bomb and gun culture; and said people are fed up of this culture and are looking forward to peace.
The protestor further demanded clarification from the perpetrators.
Unknown persons believed to be cadres of one of the many underground outfits based in the state hurled a hand grenade at the residence of the engineer around 9.45pm on Saturday.
The grenade fell below an Alto car of the engineer which was parked in the courtyard.
All four tyres were deflated; and the windshield and roof of the car were also damaged by splinters.
The blast had also damaged a portion of the residential wall and window panes.
In yet another act of bomb threat, a Chinese made hand grenade was found this morning around 11 inside a room of the Veterinary office located just opposite to the Nongpok Sekmai Police Outpost under Yairipok PS.
The room is used by labourers engaged in black topping of the road from Yairipok to Nonpok Sekmai.
It is learnt that the contractors involved were informed over the telephone that a bomb had been left, following which police search the area and found the grenade.
Sources have also informed that the black topping work is taken up under contractor Nabakumar of Singjamei.
