IMPHAL, Apr 3: The Manipur State Commission for Women has during a meeting resolved to recommend to the state government to prohibit alcohol and drugs abuse in the state.
According to a statement of the MSCW, the meeting was convened on April 2 at the office of the chairperson to discuss the crime pattern against woman in the state.
It said the meeting unanimously resolved to recommend setting up of a woman bank to help fight the economic deprivation which is the main crime against women in the state.
Alcohol and drugs has been found as the main cause of violence against women in the state, the meeting resolved so the government should prohibit alcohol and drug abuse in the state, it said.
The meeting further recommended setting up of Fast Track Court only for women for speedy disposal of cases related to crime against women.
The statement said that the recommendation was sent to the chief secretary for its implementation under the provision of the Manipur State Commission for Women Act, 2006 at the earliest.
The meeting was also attended by members, legal advisor, field officer, and staff of MSCW.
